5 of the best italian beaches you probably don’t know

The Italian coast is home to many beautiful beaches, many of them are famous, but we’ll talk about the best 5 italian beaches you probably don’t know.

The beaches you already know

Sardinia’s beaches are famous for their crystal clear waters and the white sands (look at the Pelosa beach in Sardinia in the following picture), and the same is also true for Cinque Terre and Amalfi coast.

What you probably don’t know is that there are many more beaches spread all over the country, let us describe our favorites!

1. Monopoli & Polignano a Mare (Bari)

Monopoli and Polignano a Mare are small villages 60 km (40 miles) south of Bari, in Puglia. Many of you probably know Salento already, but also the eastern coast of Puglia is full of beautiful villages and sandy beaches.

Our favorite is Porto Ghiacciolo, located in Monopoli: a small beach (be there early in the morning!) and enjoy the peace before the beach gets crowded!

If you are in Polignano, go straight to the city center. Lama Monachile is a beautiful beach under a bridge. Very scenic!

Polignano, Bari

2. White beaches, Rosignano and Vada (Livorno)

Carribean in Tuscany? Why not! Rosignano beaches are white, but there’s a catch: the beaches became white from pollution from a nearby industrial plant producing soda carbonate.

Only parts of this beach are safe for people, but check with local authorities!

3. Alassio (Savona)

Less famous abroad (compared to Cinque Terre), Alassio is a tipical village of Liguria. Beaches are clean and the water is green. What more should you ask for?

4. Viareggio (Lucca)

Viareggio is famous for its carnival, but it’s also a wonderful seaside location. Cheaper than Forte dei Marmi, you can stroll along the passeggiata when you’re tired of the sand.

5. Riccione (Rimini)

Ok, the water in Riccione is probably not the best you can find in Italy, but the nightlife and services are top-notch. You should definitely visit it if you want to have fun!
